    R. S. Thomas (b March , Cardiff, Wales – d September , Pentrefelin, Wales) was a Welsh poet and Anglican clergyman, noted for his nationalism, spirituality and deep dislike of the anglicisation of Wales. He was one of the most famous Welsh poets.

Collected Poems Many years ago the work of R S Thomas was part of my own gateway into poetry. I have owned several shorter selections of his poems but it was lovely at last to have so much of his work in one volume. Having just read Reviews:

    The publication of Thomas's 'Collected Poems' in marked the end of one period of his literary development; after this, according to his own words, he intended to turn from the strictly personal kind of poetry to a more public form of expression, and to large-scale dramatic works in particular, where there would be scope for all his.

Thomas Reading his own Poems (Oriel Records, ) By the early s, of course, the vinyl LP had already largely ceased to be the format for spoken word recordings, replaced by cassette and CD audio books, and those in turn are now being pushed to the margins by podcasts, downloads and online streaming video formats.
